Each meeting of the Edison Investors Association we include an informative speaker who offers reference or assistance to the inventor community. Last meeting our special guest speaker was Ron Reardon, President of the United Inventors Association.
Ron came prepared to start by using slides for introducing himself, UIA officers and staff. He gave personal blips about each individual as though they were “family” . It was a clever method of bringing the upper crust of the business - down to a relaxed level we inventors would enjoy.
Ron also downplayed his own impressive credentials with stories of leaving the farm for college and stumbling into the “top gun” position at the U. I. A. But - you better believe, his success is no accident.
His presentation flew by with personal reference of his own inventor trials, and the sympathy he had for other frustrated inventors. He described U.I.A.’s update and positioning for the future. Its revamp (if you will), stressed responsibility regarding referenced sources, vendors and endorsements. A Certification Seal is now awarded by a UIA committee and controlled by U.I.A.
Ron knows an audience likes personal anecdotes of experiences and struggles to build kinship. It’s the stuff we like to hear! He’s one of us! After our meeting, we treated Ron to an ice cream sundae (diet sized) as he traded some secret stories with Cathy Solich (an E.I.A. board member and mother of twins).
I’ve attached a short video to show the man and his manner. It starts with a trick stolen from Ron. To endear the crowd, he snuck in pictures of his grandchildren (twins of one twin son). I’ve done the same - so you can OOOH and AHHH as we did. It’s the least I can do… for thanking Ron for coming to Ft. Myers (on his own nickel) and strengthening the understanding, relationship and respect we have for the U.I.A.
